Original Abstract
Conventional air melting processes have limited control on the alloy cleanliness, composition, and other metallurgical issues like oxygen and nitrogen high levels, low vapor pressure tramp elements high content, and eventually also high carbon content. VCAP technology can be considered an alternative and advanced technology to deal with all these challenges. It is a hybrid between vacuum and air melting processes, and it produces significant degassing effect, removal of tramp elements, decarburization and other metallurgical benefits. These metallurgical advantages improve mechanical properties and also a great reduction of the scatter in product properties and characteristics, ultimately resulting in less rejections. © 2023 by the Association for Iron & Steel Technology.
