Original Abstract
This study aims to characterise the movement chain and analyse EMG activity during scooter riding, using surface electromyography and inertial sensors. We monitored the ankle, knee, hip angles, pelvic position, and EMG activity of ten muscles, R. upper trapezius (UT-R), R. lower trapezius (LT-R), L. erector spinae (ES-L), R. and L. internal abdominal oblique (IAO-R/L), R. rectus femoris(RF-R), R. vastus medialis (VM-R), R. vastus lateralis (VL-R), L. gluteus maximus(GM-L), while “kicking” with the dominant (right) lower limb. The movement cycle was divided into a kick phase (backward propulsive swing of the lower limb) and a preparatory (recovery) phase (knee flexion and forward swing of the limb to the position in front of the body). The mean cycle length was 1.38s (SD=0.04), of which the rebound phase was 65.46% and the return phase 34.54% (SD=2.31). The ES-L muscle achieved the highest % MVC values and was mainly involved in the initiation of the kick and during the recovery phase. Surprisingly, the peak involvement of the RF-R, VM-R, and VL-R muscles occurred during the recovery phase, as well as GM-L, which is involved in the extension of the standing leg.
