Original Abstract

Cobalt is an essential micronutrient as it is a cofactor of vitamin B12 and other enzymes in living organisms. On the other hand, cobalt is often used in many industrial and agricultural processes, therefore human exposure to inorganic cobalt is inevitable and is associated with the occurrence of various diseases. Cobalt increases oxidative stress in cells by increasing the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and can compete with other essential metal ions in macromolecules and possibly inhibit or alter their function in biochemical processes. Thus, biotechnological production faces problems with survivability of yeast culture as cobalt in certain forms has significant effect on cell viability, proteins production and integrity of DNA. That is the reason why it is necessary to understand cell adaptability to stress conditions and effect of stress factors on metabolite production in different stages of growth. IN present study metal stress was combined woth nutrition stress induced by waste materials used as C sources - waste poultry fat anf waste glycerol. The following strains of carotenogenic yeasts were used for cultivation: Cystofilobasidium macerans CCY 10-1-2, Rhodotorula kratochvilovae CCY 20-2-26, Rhodosporidium toruloides CCY CCY-062-002-004, Rhodotorula mucilaginosa CCY 20-9-7, Sporidiobolus metaroseus CCY 19-6-20 and Sporidiobolus pararoseus CCY 19-9-6.
