Original Abstract

Residues of drugs that have not been absorbed into the body are eliminated and can continue on to the various environmental compartments. In the case of residues from veterinary pharmaceuticals, they continue as manure into the soil or, in the case of wastewater, into sewage treatment plants and from there as irrigation into the soil. Residues of pharmaceuticals can be accumulated by plants that take them up from contaminated waters or soils. The QuEChERS extraction method used in this work is primarily designed for the extraction of pesticide and pharmaceutical residues. This work is focused on the analysis of the presence of selected pharmaceuticals in radish (Raphanus sativus L. var. Sativus). The individual parameters of the QuEChERS extraction method used were optimized for the highest possible recovery. This optimized method was applied to real samples of radish grown under controlled conditions. The analysis was carried out by HPLC-MS/MS. The optimization of the method was carried out separately for roots and leaves of the crop under study. At the end of the experiment, drug yield was compared after 7 and 35 days of cultivation, with higher drug accumulation found after 7 days. When comparing the drug content in leaves and roots, a higher accumulation was found in roots, but in neither case is there a proven risk to humans in terms of dietary intake.
