Original Abstract

It has been proved that cellular skin substitutes provide faster wound healing and vascularization. Suitable cells for skin substitutes are mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs), which have anti-inflammatory properties, appropriate differentiation capacity, and promote angiogenesis. MSCs can be differentiated into fibroblasts or preadipocytes. These differentiated cells were seeded on biocompatible and biodegradable collagen-chitosan foams that serve as scaffolds. Fibroblasts cultivated in the scaffold mimic the dermis layer, and preadipocytes imitate the hypodermis. Isolated keratinocytes were seeded on top of the scaffold as an epidermis layer.
