Original Abstract
Concrete is the most frequently used building material nowadays. The concrete production includes both low-end application in elementary constructions and the extremely loaded supporting bridge constructions and point-blocks. Over an appreciable progress in the concrete technology which supports production of high performance concrete and self compacting concrete, the concrete surface is susceptible to attack of corrosive agents from the environment. The questions about the maintenance of concrete constructions are for this reason at front place with respect to the financial consumption in building industry. The degradation velocity of concrete is dependent not only on external factors, however, composition of fresh concrete, placing of fresh concrete, secondary protection and microstructure of hardened concrete are also important. The primary protection limits, for example by decreasing a water/cement ratio, the formation of capillary pores. The pores in concrete allow diffuse the aggressive gases and water solution into concrete. In the cases when the primary protection either is not sufficient or the cracks are formed in the surface of concrete the secondary protection such as coating systems, injections or crystallized salts are necessary to use. The contribution deals with the procedures of determination of penetration depth of silicate waterproofing.
