Original Abstract
The International Conference on Tourism Development and Investment in Sustainability, held from May 9–11, 2024, at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, brought together leading academics, practitioners, and policymakers to explore the pivotal theme of sustainable tourism investments. This conference emphasized critical topics such as fostering inclusive community collaboration, reducing economic risks, promoting resilience, and leveraging cultural heritage for sustainable tourism. Key sessions featured distinguished keynote speakers like Professor Gianna Moscardo of James Cook University and Dr. Han Shen of Fudan University, who provided profound insights into green practices and technological innovation. Additionally, the conference showcased case studies from geoparks and ecotourism, promoting strategies to integrate sustainability within tourism ventures globally. The event concluded with a field trip to Lai Chi Wo village, emphasizing real-world applications of discussed themes. With an extensive agenda, the conference effectively bridged academic research and practical implementation, fostering partnerships for long-term sustainable tourism investments. Our presentation, delivered in a hybrid format combining in-person and remote access, brought our abstract to life under the title "Traditional Artistic Expressions: A Catalyst for Sustainable Tourism in Geoparks - Insights from Successful Experiences Worldwide." Through a rich, visually engaging discussion, we showcased global examples of integrating traditional art and sculpture into geopark tourism, with case studies such as the Sai Kung Hoi Art Festival and Italy’s Sesia Val Grande UNESCO Geopark. The presentation underscored the transformative potential of art in enhancing visitor experiences while promoting sustainability and cultural heritage preservation. The audience responded enthusiastically, posing numerous questions and engaging in a stimulating dialogue that revealed deep interest in our specialty area. This discussion underscored the global applicability of our approach, which marries art and environmental stewardship to achieve sustainable tourism goals. We are grateful for the opportunity to contribute to this vibrant professional exchange and to participate fully in the conference, including its field trip activities, which enriched our understanding and networking opportunities.
