Original Abstract

Metal reoxidation during casting influences, and in some cases in a decisive way, quality of products in foundries. Reoxidation processes used to be a cause of irreparable defects of castings as e.g. cavities (gas blowhole, pinholes), macroinclusions, the oxide penetration, slag gas defects and adverse influencing of morphology of oxides and supphides eliminated as microinclusions. Study of available literature has confirmed that this problem was not solved sufficiently from the metallurgical point of view for conditions of metal casting. For that reason the author describes and analyses the process of reoxidation of liquid metals in a mould and its influence on casting quality.
