Original Abstract
The paper presents solar chimney as a ventilation device and compares some results of experiments and CFD modelling. At the Department of Thermodynamics and Environmental Engineering have been built two types of solar chimney. The main goal of the experiments and simulations is to investigate the performance of the solar chimney under the climatic conditions of the Czech Republic, and to explore the potential of solar chimneys for ventilation of residential buildings. Both solar chimneys have been tested. Solar chimneys are connected in parallel each to other and placed in one casing. Dimensions of each are: width 750 mm, height 1500 mm and gap 200 mm. One of the chimneys contains a heat storage layer made of concrete to make the air flow rate through the chimney more uniform in time. This should also allow the utilization of the solar chimney for night cooling. The other chimney is equipped with metal plate absorption layer to achieve higher wall temperature. The solar chimney is oriented to the south and it is inclined 30 degrees from the vertical. Meteorological conditions and flow parameters such as temperature of the air in the chimney, temperatures of surfaces inside the chimney, have been monitored and discussed
