Original Abstract
In spite of some noteworthy examples that can be found in the literature, the frequency of applying computational fluid dynamics (CFD) to simulate parts of thermal treatment technology is small, relative to other processes employing combustion like glass or metal production, furnaces in chemical and petrochemical industry etc. While there are multiple reasons for this fact, it is doubtless that CFD has significant potential for bringing new insights in troubleshooting as well as design optimization of thermal treatment units. The present work shows a potential of CFD application in this field, which is demonstrated through several examples, covering various aspects of waste treatment technologies, namely low-NOx burner, dedicated heat exchanger, VOC treatment unit and filter bag of a fabric filter. The benefits of employing CFD in these applications clearly demonstrate usefulness and applicability of the computations in the area of thermal waste treatment.
