Original Abstract

The vibratory and acoustic behavior of the powertrain is highly complex, consisting of many components that are subject to loads that vary greatly in magnitude and which operate at a wide range of speeds. The interaction of the crank and crankcase is a major problem that powertrain designers have to face when optimizing the vibration and noise characteristics of the powertrain. Laser torsional vibration meter B&K Type 2523 and Laser vibrometer B&K Type 3544 are used for cranktrain vibration measurement. New computational methods including the Finite Element Method (FEM) and Multi-Body Systems (MBS) together with the non-contact measurements decrease the development time of the new powertrain. All measurements and numerical simulations are performed on a diesel in-line six-cylinder diesel engine.
