Original Abstract
The efficiency of conventional fossil power plants strongly depends on steam temperature and pressure. Research and development of heat-resistant steels for high-efficient power plants are being now promoted worldwide in order to reduce emissions of environmentally damaging gases such as CO2. The development of stronger high temperature materials call for not only creep strength improvement but also resistance to fireside and steamside corrosion, fabricability and weldability. Great advancement has been achieved in the analysis of microstructure instability causing a loss of creep strength and the theoretical modelling of precipitation sequences taking place in creep resistant steels welds. The dissimilar laboratory welds of bainitic T25 steel, currently being developed, and modified martensitic chromium P91 steel have been subject of study. Both base materials were ion-nitrided and homogenized at 1050C/24h before welding. The redistribution of interstitials (C, N) and phase profiles in the weld joints were simulated using DICTRA software package at different annealing conditions of 600C/240h and 900C/18h. The results from the simulation were compared with experimental observations. A relatively good agreement between the simulations and the experiments was observed.
