Original Abstract

Methods of survey of stone historical structures are recently widely discussed. Historical stone bridge structures belong by their material and construction heterogeneity to the most complicated structures. They are described ter-rain works and preparatory phase of survey, which assess all impact factors of outer environment on the structure. Special attention is focused on sampling methods, selection of sampling places quantity and dimension of samples, macroscopical in situ documentation, and potential application of non-destructive methods. Within the laboratory methods they are discussed special analytical methods, which can be used for study of building stones, concrete, ceramics and mortars. Besides the study of basic material composition of stone structures they are presented meth-ods for study of pore system and secondary minerals in pores. Described are also special methods for study of efflo-rescences and their relation to surface weathering and degradation of material. Complex engineering geological investigation both in the field and in laboratory brings to civil engineers significant information for design of recon-struction of an individual historical structure.
