Original Abstract
The procedure of creating nanostructures consists in using a nanoporous non-conductive template which is coated with conductive layer on one of its sides. During the electrodeposition process, the metal is growing only on the conductive layer (representing cathode) and fills up the nanopores. After dissolving the template, nanostructures are obtained. Either nanotubes or nanowires (nanorods) can be produced by this method. The type of the structure can be influenced mainly by ultrasound waves, the nanopores diameter, and the pH. The width and the density of created nanostructures are given by the template. The length of nanostructures depends on amount of deposited metal, thus the required length of nanostructures can be achieved if the current density and the time of electrodeposition are adequate. In the case of plating through template, only diffusion as a way of mass transport is effective because of the nanosize of the pores. It is also assumed that in this case, a series of two diffusion layers exist. A quasi spherical diffusion layer is added on top of a linear diffusion layer. In order for the plating process to be the most effective the limiting current density has to be determined. The created nanostructures are examined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The identification of nanotubes is sometimes troublesome because of the resemblance to insufficiently dissolved alumina template.
