Original Abstract
In this contribution we present several case studies in which automatic speech recognition (ASR) was tested as a means for evaluating quality of speech, either human or synthetic. Usually, speech quality is measured by subjective tests. Our aim was to investigate whether these tests (which request considerable amount of human time and experience) could be replaced (or supplemented) by techniques based on ASR. So far we studied the application of 2 types of Czech ASR systems to the evaluation of intelligibility of TTS systems, pronunciation quality of professional and non-professional speakers and intelligibility of noisy speech before and after applying signal enhancement techniques.
