Original Abstract

This paper deals with basic information on actual behaviour of the glass roofing and facade structures based on research conducted at Brno University of Technology, Czech republic. To examine the behaviour of structural systems an effective procedure referred to as the vacuum test method is being utilized in the testing laboratory of the Division of Metal and Timber Structures at the Civil Engineering Faculty. Main experimental program compare different assortments of the plated element of the glass roofing structure, namely the plain thermally toughened safety glass, the laminated glass composed of non toughened glass plates with PVB foil in between and finally the laminated glass composed of toughened glass. The design and selection of glass for overhead structural system requires special attention from the point of view of its failure mechanism and corresponding consequences to safety of persons in covered building space.
