Original Abstract

Due to changes in ground water flow regime as a result of extreme hydrological events, the pressure condition in the ground also changes. It may threaten stability of ground itself as well as objects on the stream, levees and mainly buildings and objects situated directly behind the levees. Risk determination resulting from changes in ground water flow should be an integral part of floodplain risk analysis. Ground water flow modelling is based on application of material parameters presumed with data obtained from limited number of boreholes. Uncertainties involved in modelling process due to incorrectness of such assumptions may be reduced by application of statistical method and mainly method of space depending random fields. These techniques were applied in case study on area of approximately 20 km2 in Brno (Czech republic) using data of 60 boreholes done in the area in last 30 years.
