Original Abstract

For mathematical modeling of processes occurring in electrical arc it is necessary to know thermal, electrical and radiation properties of the plasma - the medium where the arc is burning. At high temperatures in the arc the gas is dissociated and ionized and its properties are determined by the composition and properties of products of dissociation and ionization. In stabilized arc plasma is in the state of local thermodynamic equilibrium, the equilibrium composition can be calculated either by stoichiometric algorithm or by minimizing the Gibbs energy of the system. If the conditions of local thermodynamic equilibrium are not fulfilled (e.g. in decaying plasma during arc extinction in high-voltage circuit breakers) the composition has to be computed by methods of chemical kinetics. In this paper we present both the equilibrium and kinetic composition of the plasma of SF6 (medium usually used in high-voltage circuit breakers), results are compared for concentration of electrons.
