Original Abstract
Due to the sensitivity of slender and flexible structures to wind load it is necessary that engineers and designers are equipped with tools enabling them to determine the effects of wind on a structure more occurately than with other types of structures where the effect of wind is not a dominant load. The relation between the load and the deformation of a structure is in the case of flexible structural elements highly non-linear, i.e. the resultant deflection of the structure considerably depends on the magnitude, direction and position of the load. The correlation length is one of the essential parameters influencing the magnitude of the load in the response of the structure to the action of vortex shedding. The paper summarizes the individual approaches to determining the correlation length both on the basis of experimental methods and on the theoretical basis.
