Original Abstract

This paper describes a cutting tool (sintered carbides without and with coats, cermet, cutting ceramics) wear process with regard to the rise and function of physical and chemical wear mechanisms (abrasion, adhesion, diffusion, plastic deformation, brittle fracture) at longitudi-nal turning of high strength steel (Rm=1480 MPa, Rp0,2=1310 MPa), in comparison with me-dium carbon steel. The size of particular wear criteria (face crater - KT, flank facet - VB) is observed by the usual process (workshop microscope, surface texture measuring instrument). The tool wear process is observed by the help of a scanning electron microscope and it is evaluated with the connection of cutting force components and tool temperature.
