Original Abstract
Combat vehicles are a source of very annoying noise. This strange noise is coming through microphones of personal headsets of individual crewmembers to communication channel of vehicular intercom, hf and vhf onboard radios. One of the possible ways to suppress these troublesome sounds and significantly decrease the stress of individual crewmembers is to implement some of the speech enhancement algorithms into vehicular communication systems. Generally, it should bring increase in speech quality and make the life of the crew much easier. A wide range of speech enhancement algorithms exist today. These algorithms are supposed to give reasonable performance in coloured noise environment. Two of them - Berouti and multiband spectral subtraction were tested in noise of real combat platforms.
