Original Abstract
Regulation of electrical power generation according to the actual power consumption is a non-trivial problem. At present the solution is situated mainly on the source side of the network. With the increasing number of small and dislocated power generators (wind power plants, small hydro-electric plants etc.), the problem gets complicated and demands a new approach. In this paper, we present an experimental implementation of the regulation on the consumer side of the network, which is based on regulation of power consumption of a group of computers located in a small local power network. The regulation is controlled by the Rice multi-agent system whose primary purpose is a simulation of power flow in power distribution networks. By connecting specific agents in the system to physical devices in a power network we can simulate intelligent reactions of the network to different external events which influence the local network and vice versa. The experiment described in the paper deals both with simulated accident events (black-out) and planned events (planned consumption reduction).
