Original Abstract

The fatigue performance of thin-walled steel girders subjected to many times repeated loading is characterized by the development of fatigue cracks which initiate as a result of the coupled effect of repeated plate buckling and cumulative damage in the girder, at the toes of the fillet welds connecting the flanges and stiffeners with the web sheet. The objective of the contribution is to report about the main conclusions of a sensitivity analysis performed, via the geometrically and materially nonlinear large deflection theory, with the view to map the aforesaid effect. The shape changing during loading process is often accompanying with sudden snap-through i. e. rapid curvature change. For numerical description of these phenomenon is necessary to take into account an influence of inertial forces.
