Original Abstract
Waste water represent extremely complicated matrix containing thousands of compounds in extremely wide concentration range. Due to their adverse environmental effect it is necessary to analyze some of them on trace levels, which brings together very difficult and time consuming multistep sample preparation procedures. The application of high resolution separation and spectrometric techniques could substantially simplify these methods. In this study the orthogonal comprehensive two-dimensional gas chromatography with fast mass spectrometric detection (GCxGC-TOF MS) was used. In this instrumental setting the gas chromatography in the first dimension is realized under standard conditions while the second-dimension-separation is fast chromatography lasting several second. For the reliable detection and evaluation of peaks with sub-second peak widths very fast MS detection is required. Till now, only TOF analyzer completely fulfills these requirements.
