Original Abstract
The condition of successful rehabilitation action in the case of degraded concrete or reinforced concrete structure is the careful preparation, which includes some successive steps. The first fundamental condition is to obtain the detailed information concerning the state of the structure and the extent, of its degradation. It is necessary to have not only information about the extent of degradation but also of its causes. Based on this information it is possible to propose alternatives of rehabilitation, with the selection of adequate technologies and repair materials which are suitable for the given type of structure and the extent of damage. The technical and economic evaluation forms the basis for an investor to make the decision as to which of the proposed alternatives is following his technological and economic possibilities and best complies with his demands. Only afterwards the operation will be realized by special technically and personally provided companies. The verification of quality is carried out by inspections, which are performed both during the rehabilitation, and after the rehabilitation is finished. The mentioned principle is demonstrated on the case of an actual object - the 125 m high cooling tower, which shows serious disturbances of concrete and of the steel reinforcement.
