Original Abstract

The aim of this paper is to investigate the possibility of using waste materials for the production of dry pressed ceramic tiles. By using power plant fly ashes and suitable waste fluxing agents (here hornblende dust) and firing the raw material mixtures at 1100-1200 Celsius degrees, it was possible to prepare a ceramic body with properties corresponding to those of dry pressed ceramic tiles manufactured from pure natural raw materials (mostly alumino-silicates). This paper will describe the properties of the fired fly ash bodies determined according to ISO 10 545 standards (e.g. water absorption, bending strength, bulk density, moisture expansion) and examines the fly- ash body microstructure
