Original Abstract

The article gives overview of complex aerodynamic optimization approach applied to business-jet aircraft wing design. In the frame of 6th EU FP integrated project CESAR [1] generic business-jet configuration was designed and diverse optimization techniques were applied to airfoil and wing design by members of project consortium. The authors explored particularly response surface method (RSM) potential for global wing aerodynamic optimization. The capability of method to support designer's decisions was assessed and attempt to incorporate basic structural criteria in aerodynamic optimization was made.
