Original Abstract

Light-saturated rate of CO2 assimilation (Asat), assimilation capacity (Asat), rate of dark respiration (RD), maximum rate of in vivo Rubisco carboxylation (Vcmax), Rubisco activity and content in vitro at Fagus sylvatica and Picea abies cultivated under ambient (AC) and elevated (EC) CO2 concentrations were measured. Reductions of Rubisco content and light-saturated stomatal conductance were observed in EC as compared to AC ones. A slight decrease of the time constant for Rubisco activation was observed in EC. EC treatment led to the stimulation of the initial phase of photosynthetic induction. This was demonstrated by higher values of the induction state 60 s after leaf illumination as compared to AC treatment.
