Original Abstract
Polyurethane is produced in large quantities all over the world and it could be found in very wide range of products. At the end of their life-cycle the polyurethane-based or polyurethane-containing products are very often deposited on waste dumps where they degrade under the influence of various environmental factors. One of the most important degradation mechanisms is photolysis. This paper focuses attention to the identification of photolysis products of polyurethane foam with enhanced biodegradation, resulting from partial replacement of synthetic polyols by bio-originated and biodegradable ones during polyurethane synthesis. The tested materials were irradiated by UV-light. Volatile compound were sorbed during irradiation using SPME and analyzed by comprehensive orthogonal two-dimensional gas chromatography - mass spectrometry (GCxGC-TOF MS). Semivolatile compounds were extracted from exposed polyurethane foam by hexane and analyzed by gas chromatography - mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The influence of biodegradable filler on the composition of photodegradation products is also assessed.
