Original Abstract
In this paper, the possibilities of the most suitable choice of broadband data link connection in metropolitan networks are discussed. Broadband services, mainly package Triple Play consisted of broadband connection to the Internet, IPTV (Television over Internet Protocol), and VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol), and their requirements on point-to-point connection are introduced. On the assumption that there is needed to connect two points at the 200 m distance, several possibilities can be offered. Wired possibility is to connect two points by optic fibre with length 300 m and media convertors or optic switches. Wireless solution is using of FSO (Free-Space-Optics) data link or microwave data link. All types of connection are measured by AXS-200/850 and results of measured parameters defined in RFC 2544 are discussed. Parameters are throughput and latency on link and data layer. Influence of increasing atmospheric attenuation on BER (Bit-Error-Rate) is described for FSO solution. The price of acquisition is listed for all possibilities of connection.
