Original Abstract

The aggregation of humic substances sodium salts was studied using high resolution ultrasonic spectroscopy. Results confirmed earlier statements about progressive aggregation of humic substances at concentration 0.001 g/L and revealed that there is only small difference in behavior of humic and fulvic acids. Obtained dependences of increment of ultrasonic velocity were fitted by super-exponential function and correlation of obtained coefficients showed the importance of hydrophobic structures in interactions stabilizing humic supramolecular structures. In contrast, polar oxygen-containing groups were shown to have minor influence at lower concentrations. For further considerations the fractal analysis was used and revealed that around concentration 1 g/L, fractal dimension reached a constant value suggesting possible switch between mechanisms of humic substances aggregation.
