Original Abstract

The present paper reports the results achieved in the framework of a research subsidized by the Grant Agency of the Czech Republic. The research dealt with the utilization of noise spectroscopy and diagnostics for testing new insulating materials designed for temperatures of up to 350 C. The main problem encountered here is the generation of partial discharges, which takes place when the electric field intensity in the insulator exceeds a certain critical value. The partial discharges are characterized by oxidizing, chemical, thermal and mechanical effects. In this way, they disturb the insulating system thus curtailing the service life of the electric equipment in question. The testing method we have used here to analyze the partial discharges is based on tracking the fluctuation phenomena arising in a strong electric field, namely, the partial discharge electrical characteristic statistics and the statistical characteristics of the acoustic emission induced by the partial discharges.
