Original Abstract

Experimental studies of acoustic emission and current partial discharge pulses in M-I-M capacitor under applied constant and a ramp voltage have been performed. Partial discharges are created in gas bubbles mainly at the interface between insulator and metal. The partial discharges (PD) are sources of acoustic emission (AE). Capacitors operating under constant voltage have very low number of partial discharges. Simultaneously with PD signal, the AE signals were picked up. Time delay between PD and AE signals can be used to determine the position of the PD source for given wave velocity. Experimentally was shown that threshold voltage has a value greater than 300 V. For applied ramp voltage the partial discharges can be observed in both regimes, i.e. under increasing and decreasing bias voltage. This system has a memory and its state depends on its previous history.
