Original Abstract

The iteration of local buckling and of the stability loss of a column with closed cross-section made of the steel grade S235 will be analysed. With the aim at understanding the effect of the local buckling on the loss of stability as accurately as possible, the problem will be modelled by means of the shell finite elements. The load-carrying capacity of the column will be evaluated by a geometrically and physically non-linear analysis. The Ansys programme will be used. The conception of the normative buckling strength of the compressed columns is based on the analysis of a real structural element that, in contrast with the model of an ideal column, shows a number of initial imperfections affecting its load-carrying capacity. The realizations of input imperfections will be simulated using the Latin Hypercube method (improved Monte Carlo method) that makes it possible to simulate the realization of the data from the known statistics of the input values in a similar way as they could be obtained by direct measurements.
