Original Abstract
A simple network model was presented. The model predicted deformation properties of the nanocrystalline material from its structure and morphology. The interphase layer with immobilized molecular chains was a cause of the reinforcing effect of the composite material. This layer was introduced between the amorphous and crystalline phase. Stress-strain properties of nanocrystalline starch was interpreted by this model. The effect of this interphase layer was investigated. It was found that the presence of interphase layer is one but not sufficient condition. More important was the thickness of interphase layers of each particle. If the interphase layer of the particles were sepearated each to other, the reinforcing effect was weak. On the other hand, when the interphase were blended to one continuous phase, the reinforcing effect started to be strong.
