Original Abstract
The main purpose of this book is a complex physical-chemical analysis of transport processes in concrete aimed to a direct application in the computational assessment of concrete performance in a variety of situations appearing in building sites. In the first part of the book, a survey of physical and chemical processes and transport mechanisms in concrete is done, and their significance for affecting heat, moisture and chemical compounds transport is analyzed. Then, fundamentals of modeling transport phenomena in chemically reacting mixtures are given. In the principal part of the book, a critical analysis of current models commonly employed for describing transport phenomena both generally in porous materials and particularly in concrete is done. As a result of this analysis, the most prospective models suitable for advanced calculations of transport processes in concrete are recommended. An overview of methods for experimental determination of both field variables and transport and storage parameters characterizing heat, moisture and chemical compounds transport in concrete is given. Finally, the possibilities of advanced models of transport processes in concrete are illustrated on typical examples of practical calculations, covering such topics as building physics related assessment of the envelope, hydration heat related problems in large-scale concrete structures, concrete in the conditions of a fire, salt transport induced embedded steel corrosion, and service life prediction.
