Original Abstract

The paper deals with the modeling of airflow and temperature fields in the attic of the senior citizen’s home in the town of Svitavy. The senior citizen’s home employs solar pre-warming of the supply air by means of a type of glass roof. The commercial, finite-volume based CFD program Star-CD was employed in the solution. In the first stage a 2D CFD model of the attic was created. Boundary condition involved solar radiation intensity, incident angle, and outdoor temperature. The task was solved as transient and so the boundary conditions were time dependent. RNG k-e model of turbulence was applied. The final stage of the modeling involved a 3D model of the attic with the suction of pre-warmed air from the attic by the ventilation unit. The experimental data from on-site measurements, which were carried out at the senior citizens home, were used for the validation of CFD models.
