English abstract

Protective dikes are heavily loaded for a short term during extreme hydrological situations. Infiltrating water causes significant changes of their stress and stability. The primary condition of the dike reliability lies in security of their stability at all probable situations of the loading. The complexity of the problem lies in the flow of water in unsaturated soil media. The experimental results show that the hydraulic conductivity coefficient of the unsaturated soil reaches the magnitudes more than thousand times lower in comparison with saturated soil. The laboratory electronic measuring equipments based on observing the temperature field and the impedance changes of the dike material, capable of the sensitive monitoring of the time and spatial movement of the free water level have been designed and tested at the laboratory of the applicant. Determination of the free water level movement is substantial for the stress, stability and the solution of inverse problems of the hydraulic conductivity of unsaturated soils. The goal of the project is to transfer laboratory tested free water level movement indication methods to the practice, and the application of gained knowledge for calibration and verification of mathematical models. Besides, the influence of the free water level movement on the dike damage appearance and its localization will be observed. The results are shown at this paper.
