Original Abstract
Recently many problems concerning environmental protection are being resolved. More and more strict emission limits in combination with other aspects of the environment (water protection and health conditions of society) have placed higher requirements on incineration plant operation, as they are sources of pollution. The aim is to minimize the negative impact on the environment. In order for the Czech Republic to enter into the European Union, these regulations are obligatory and they form a basis for sustainable development. Due to the fast growth of industrial and municipal waste it has become a necessity to find efficient ways to treat and handle the amount of waste produced. In order to uphold the conditions of sustainable development, it is essential to begin with the design of the incineration plant. Although there are various computer programs existing to simulate combustion processes, the design of incineration plants or their retrofit, these quite specific cases are based on operation experience or the company’s know-how (e.g. selection of a suitable kiln, recuperator). These factors require development of mathematical models for specific apparatus with maximum implementation of real influences, which affect the process of thermal treatment of wastes. Mathematical models of chosen units for thermal treatment of wastes are described in this contribution. These models offer a wide spectrum of incinerator plant design.
