Original Abstract
Queuing and congestions occur to a great extent at the spots where road works take place. This fact presents continuous growth of external travel costs, lowered traffic comfort, increased travel times, significantly increased stress factor and not least higher risk of accidents. Extensive investment into repair of roads and bridges are expected, including planned reconstruction and widening of the D1 highway. All those interferences with traffic flow capacity will be reflected notably in traffic fluency and safety. ViaZONE project brings suggestions how to reduce the impacts of necessary repairs and how to markedly improve capacity of the given road and increase traffic fluency, even in the long term, using present-day portable co-operative telematics systems.
