Original Abstract
Smart concrete (SC) or generally conductive cement-based materials can serve to build the heating elements. Certain amount of an electrically conductive admixture in cement can significantly change resistance that has to be within specific range to provide sufficient output power of the heating element. Intelligent remotely-controlled thermostat with datalogging, called iTHERMST, was designed and built to test and measure new samples. Using iTHERMST helped to find convenient admixtures of carbon nanofibers and metal fillings. Fabricated concrete block with dimension of 2 x 1 m was able to melt the snow away from the surface effectively.
