Original Abstract
The work deals with a crack-tip stress field analysis during the WST (wedge-splitting test) on specimens made of quasi-brittle materials. The analysis is conducted on a 2D numerical model of the test specimen – an adapted standard concrete cube with the edge length equal to 100 mm – using the ANSYS FE computational system. The influence of different boundary conditions (supports, loading) on the stress field in the specimen is investigated through approximation of the field by Williams power series; coefficients of several starting terms of the power series are studied as functions of the crack length. The main aim of authors is to identify the importance of the considered terms of the Williams series to the accuracy of the stress field description. Results of the study are expected to be utilized for estimation of the extent of the fracture process zone at the crack tip in quasi-brittle materials.
