Original Abstract

This paper summarizes the pure torsion stiffness examination of the perforated thin-walled steel beams generally used in the storage systems and expedient flooring structures. The circular perforation is being placed in the web of the beam. The experimental verification of the St. Venant torsion parameter is a partial task to determine the ultimate and design strength of the beams with respect to lateral torsional buckling. First the pure torsion parameter is theoretically calculated for the substitute cross-section and then the examined beams are subjected to the laboratory investigation. The resulting pure torsion parameters obtained from the test for different beam lengths are approximated by exponential curves and the formula describing the relationship between the pure torsion stiffness and the angle of rotation is being established.
