Original Abstract

Machine tool positional accuracy and repeatability are core descriptors of a machine tool and indicate the machines expected level of performance. While a number of standards and guidelines exist outlining how to evaluate machine tool positional accuracy and repeatability, they differ in their analysis procedures and in key parameter definition. As a result the values reported for positional accuracy and repeatability for any one machine can vary depending on which standard was used. As all standards are equally valid it is beneficial to be aware how the standards differ from each other and how the different calculated values compare to each other.
