Original Abstract

Design and development of lightweight thermal insulation mortars and plasters often face the questions of optimization of thermal insulating and mechanical properties. At using dry hydrate in connection with Portland cement it is necessary to dose big amount of bonding agent to obtain better mechanical properties which results in higher density and degradation of thermal insulating properties. One of possible ways for improvement of mechanical properties while minimizing decrease of thermal insulating properties is use of alkali activated binders as metakaolin or fly-ash instead of Portland cement. Utilization of the fly-ash as a substitution of cement is interesting also from the environmental point of view. The paper describes possibilities of fly-ash and metakaolin application for development of lightweight thermal insulation plasters based on porous aggregates and comparison of properties of these plasters with plasters where the Portland cement is applied.
