Original Abstract
This study deals with the benefits of very hard PVD coatings applied to the tools of high speed steels. The coating was synthesized by a cathodic-arc deposition process (CAE). The milling was carried out without using process liquid, so it was dry machining. During testing, cutting speed was varied (30; 35 and 40 m/min), but the feed per tooth (0.05 mm) and depth of cut (2 mm) were constant. The cutting tests were performed on vertical milling machine FV 25 CNC. The aim of this experiment was to compare the coated and uncoated HSSE-PM end mills and find out the benefits of coating AlTiCrN. The monitored parameters were force loading and flank wear. Best results were achieved by machining cutting speed 35m/min. Tools with PVD coating AlTiCrN had ten times longer durability than uncoated tools.
