Original Abstract
Nonlinear computer simulation is well-established methodology for analysis reinforced doncrete structures, and it can be used also in design of bridges. Advanced program package for nonlinear computational modelling of concrete bridges, their behaviour, damage and failure under various loading and environmental conditions is presented. Background for the nonlinear finite element simulation of concrete bridges and recent developments of the software tool are described. Utilization of the nonlinear computer simulation in design of bridges, in particular application of the global safety concept and probabilistic safety assessment are discussed. The global safety approach is documented on practical example of bridge design in Czech republic. The nonlinear computer simulation combined with efficient probabilistic tools allows safety and reliability assessment of bridges based on rational analysis of the structural response and resistance.
