Original Abstract
Archaeologists find hundreds of historical items every year. These items carry information about procedures of their fabrication as well as signs of nation's wealth and culture. To preserve these artefacts, several procedures have to be performed. Dirt and corrosion must be removed and then anti-corrosion protection is created. Corrosion removal is studied elsewhere. We will focus on anti-corrosion finishing and its characterization. Several types of thin films were tested for possible application in archeology: organosilicone, diamond-like carbon and parylene thin films. Barrier properties of these thin films were characterized as well as their corrosion resistance. Best results were achieved for parylene films.
