Original Abstract

The paper presents a new method for two-dimensional deconvolution of ultrasonic B-scan images. It is based on estimation of the point spread function from radiofrequency data by means of an improved homomorphic filtering scheme using two-dimensional phase unwrapping. The deconvolution is applied separately to images of the 1st and 2nd harmonic, coming from a broadband transducer. Based on the presented deconvolution technique, a new speckle suppression approach was proposed, where the envelopes of the deconvolved images of both harmonics are summed together to create a high-resolution image with suppressed speckle pattern. The method has been tested on clinical radiofrequency image data.
