Original Abstract
This paper is concerned with the Wehner/Schulze test method, which allows laboratory measurement of surface skid resistance. Measurements can be performed directly on cores taken from asphalt or concrete roads, or on aggregate test specimens prepared in a laboratory from splits of various fractions. The paper presents the results of measurements of surface skid resistance made on asphalt, concrete and aggregate specimens. Cores were extracted from roads of various age, aggregate types, asphalt mixtures or different type of texturing. Values of friction coefficient measured on cores are compared with longitudinal friction coefficient determined on roads by dynamic measurement system TRT. The results of friction measurements of various types of aggregate samples are compared with the reference method in accordance with the EN 1097-8. Aggregate polishing determined by the Wehner/Schulze device has a higher resolution than the current method given by the EN 1097-8, and based on our results, shows good repeatability and reproducibility.
